Mobile Outreach Clinic at 2022 UF College of Medicine Research Day

MOC volunteers present two posters on Wednesday, April 6th at the 2022 UF College of Medicine Research Day at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

On Wednesday, April 6th at the 2022 at UF College of Medicine Research Day, UF Mobile Outreach Clinic Lead Coordinators, Amy B. Tran, Juan Martin Arnoletti, Evelyn N. Martinez, Byrell Bautista, and Sum Chi Lydia Poon presented two research posters. These Lead Coordinators took the initiative to design and self-conceptualize these projects. These two studies aimed to discuss blood pressure control in patients managed at MOC in 2021 and scheduling techniques guided by care coordination and SDOH in the sustained decrease of no-show appointment rates at the MOC, respectively. Congratulations to these Lead Coordinators for their dedication and work!

In brief, this retrospective quality improvement study sought to describe the difference in the sociodemographic distribution of blood pressure control prior to and after receiving treatment at MOC. The results of this study will now be used to educate MOC’s screening and management practices of patients with elevated BP. The benefit of using free safety-net clinics, like MOC, to improve BP management at the populational level would be a reduction of disparities surrounding the incidence and prevalence of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

MOC’s appointment no-show rates aim to demonstrate how SDOH-informed scheduling methods and care coordination, which prioritizes patient advocacy, can sustainably mitigate high no-show rates common in other safety net and primary care clinics in general. These results show that there is an opportunity to include other contributing factors in scheduling to better contextualize SDOH informed engagement of the patient population.

Several of our other Lead Coordinators and Care Coordinators were also present at the 2022 UF College of Medicine Research Day, presenting posters from their outside research labs.
