Lung Cancer affects 1 in 16 people with a lost of over 100,000 lives per year. The MOC wants to educate the community on how to prevent lung cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, the best way to reduce your risk is “not to smoke and to avoid breathing in other people’s smoke.” Interesting enough, if you stop smoking before a cancer develops, your damaged lung tissue will gradually repair itself. Other things you can do are develop a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise, avoid workplace carcinogens by using respiratory protection and last but not least, get screened for lung cancer.
It is recommended that adults aged 50 to 80 who have a smoking history of 20 years and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years, be screen for lung cancer. To educated yourself about the lung cancer screening procedure, check out Lung cancer Screening – Lung Cancer – UF Health.
