“I believe that patient advocacy is a core responsibility of a physician.”
– William R.
My name is William Ross, and I am the Health Education, Harm Reduction and HIV co-coordinator for UF Street Med.
My experience in the program thus far has taught me a lot about the healthcare inequities faced by the Gainesville homeless population. Additionally, I have learned ways of advocating for the patient population that we work with, using the Street Med team’s informed voice as a means of creating systemic change within the healthcare system and society as a whole to protect the homeless community.
I believe that patient advocacy is a core responsibility of a physician. Therefore, learning how to vocalize an informed opinion to a broad audience is an important skill I have gleaned from my experience.
I hope to continue providing the most comprehensive care we can to the disadvantaged homeless population of Gainesville!
